Statement by Ottawa Community Housing on the Fire at 395 Somerset Street West

OTTAWA, March 15, 2026 – Ottawa Community Housing has issued the following statement regarding the fire that occurred last night at 395 Somerset Street West in the Centretown area.

Ottawa Community Housing extends its deepest condolences following the tragic loss of life connected to this incident. Our thoughts are with the family, loved ones, and community members impacted during this difficult time.  

The health and safety of tenants is one of OCH’s top priorities. OCH responded quickly, working closely with emergency services, onsite partners, the City of Ottawa, and the Canadian Red Cross to support tenants. Out of respect for tenant privacy, OCH does not disclose tenant personal information. We remain committed to protecting the dignity and confidentiality of those affected.   

OCH staff will be present in the building in the days and weeks ahead to assist tenants directly. OCH will also continue to work with community partners to provide ongoing support to tenants and the surrounding community.  

We continue to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation and thank Ottawa Fire Services, Ottawa Police, the Ontario Fire Marshal, and all first responders for their prompt response and continued partnership.
